Creating a Larger Glass Horse Sculpture: Practice and Progress

Creating a Larger Glass Horse Sculpture: Practice and Progress

Following my first attempt at a glass horse in nearly 20 years, I felt inspired to push my skills further and immediately set to work on a larger version. In this video, which is just over three minutes long, I create a bigger, more detailed glass horse. This piece allowed me to explore the technique in more depth, refining the proportions and elegance that a larger sculpture demands.

While making the larger horse, I had to adjust to the increased amount of molten glass, which brings its own challenges. Maintaining control over the material becomes trickier as the size increases, and every pull and twist must be executed with precision to avoid distortion or breakage. The legs, in particular, need to be carefully balanced to keep the figure stable.

Each step of this process brought back memories of the intense dedication it took to master horse sculpting years ago, and I’m pleased with how this second attempt turned out. The added size allowed me to bring more life to the sculpture, capturing the graceful movement and energy of a horse in motion.

If you’re interested in seeing how this larger horse came to life, check out the full video on my YouTube channel. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe to follow my glassmaking journey, and feel free to share the video with others who appreciate the art of glass sculpting.
